He wasn't given much notice between hearing the footsteps and the door swinging open. Ducking away out of the bedroom as quickly as possible, he pressed himself flat against a wall and turned his head, ears straining.
Logic said whoever had just walked in knew what the place looked like on a regular day, but that didn't help him figure out if they were friend or foe.
Staying quiet, he steadied his breathing and tried not to creak any floorboards when he shifted his weight.
